FAQs

What locations do you serve?

For in-person training sessions, I offer in-home services in Marion County, Indiana, and surrounding counties.

Details about my travel fee for surrounding counties can be found on my Private Training Services Page

Is private training right for me?

Private training is helpful because the training plan and support are tailored to you, your dog, and your specific needs and goals.

Because it is conducted in-home as well, it is very helpful for behavior modification of behavior specific to your home or daily outings.

It can also be a more successful training setup than group classes for dogs who are fearful or become easily over-excited in busy settings.

Because it is one-on-one, every moment of the session is focused on helping you and your companion animal achieve your goals and understand each other.

What does the training process look?

The first step is a consultation (60-90 minutes, in-home or online) where we get to know each other. I go over how my training works and how you can get the most out of working with me. We then go into detail about you, your companion animal, and what you are looking for help with.
I send a follow-up summary email with first steps for training as well as resources.
All following sessions are 1 hour and include a detailed follow-up emailed training plan and ongoing support.

How many sessions will it take?

This varies greatly depending on your training goals, your dog's personality and training history, and the amount of time and effort you are willing to put towards practicing.
During sessions with me, I work with you and your dog to show you how to get started on training new behaviors. From there, it is up to you to put the training plan into practice!
Some clients receive the initial plan guidelines from me at the consultation and conduct the majority of the training on their own. Other clients like having more hands-on support from me.
Sessions can be spaced out in a variety of ways depending on what works best for each client. We can meet weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly.

What type of training methods/equipment do you use?

I use all force-free, science-based dog training methods that are rooted in positive reinforcement. For detailed information on this, check out the Our Philosophy tab

I have multiple companion animals. Can you help me with more than one?

Yes! I charge based on the hour, so I commonly split sessions in half to work with multiple companion animals in one family. Another option is to do double-length sessions.
